The age-old dictum, Form Follows
Function, basically means that for an object to
perform a certain function, its design should
support that function to the fullest extent
possible. Frank Lloyd Wright challenged that notion
by saying, "Form follows function—that has been
misunderstood. Form and function should be one,
joined in a spiritual union." There's wisdom in his
ideology, and it seems from walking the floor at
both this year's ICFF and i Saloni shows that
furniture designers have struck a balance between
the two. From the whimsical approaches to many
products, it's also evident they've decided fun
should enter into the equation, and we
wholeheartedly agree.
